       Calamba City, the Philippines, 6 November 2021 -- FIN Provincial Superior Fr. Gerry Martin, SDB presided at the Funeral Mass of Fr. Michael La Guardia, SDB, and Fr. Vicente Cervania, SDB. Both of them passed on last August, but due to the strict protocol imposed by the government that prohibited mass gatherings, the annual commemoration of deceased Salesians became the venue for the Mass held at the Diocesan Shrine of Mary Help of Christians and was streamed online via Facebook Live.

       The inurnment rites took place right after.

       Fr. Stephen Placente, SDB, and Fr. Jun Lingad, SDB along with Bishop Leo Drona, Archbishop Francesco Panfilo led the Salesian priests who concelebrated with Fr. Provincial. The celebration took place in the.

       The aspirants from Don Bosco Prenovitiate Formation House animated the Mass songs, while the students of theology from Seminaryo ng Don Bosco and Sandor House animated the Liturgy.

       The celebration was limited to the Salesians of Don Bosco, and the immediate family of the abovementioned deceased Salesians.

       Fr. Placente, SDB narrated in his homily the good and joyful memories which Fr. Michael and Fr. Vicente shared in their lifetime. He reminded us that in dealing with the death of a true friend, it is best to remember the happy experiences that they shared with us, and be inspired by the hope of eternal life which the deceased Salesians are now enjoying.

       The Mass was followed by the inurnment rites for Fr. Michael and Fr. Vic in the cemetery located just behind the MHC Shrine. The Holy Rosary was offered for the eternal repose of our deceased confreres.

       The celebration concluded with meals and sharing of stories, remembering the joy and optimism which the deceased Salesians had in common.
