World, 16 April 2021 -- The Way of the Cross has already spread around the Catholic Church throughout the world for centuries and become 'a must' even for any small out-station, mission station in the bush. But there is also the 33-year-old 'Way of Light' - one of the finest visible fruits of the Salesian Charism. It originated in one of the lay groups of the Salesian Family - 'The Witnesses of the Risen Lord' (TR) - in 1988, on the occasion of Don Bosco's 100th anniversary of his death and the first art-pieces of the 14 stations can be found in the Catacombs of St Callistus (Rome) or at Colle Don Bosco (Becchi, Italy).

The Via Lucis (Way of Light) has already spread around the Salesian Family in all continents, but we don't find many 'life size' presentations of its stations that help us to pray this wonderful 'devotion'. Former provincial of Southern Africa (AFM - South Africa, Lesotho and Eswatini), Fr Francois Dufour) is among the enthusiastic advocates of 'Via Lucis'. After he published the 'African version' in 1998 (Johannesburgh), they found their way to other African provinces even beyond the Salesian family. And now you may it find in other African countries like Zambia.

The 14 stations of the Via Lucis published in this news article are made by Fr. Pierre de la Croix (Missionary of Africa) and you could visit them at Bosco Youth Centre, Gauteng - Republic of South Africa (AFM province). May we soon expect some typical East Asian or Pacific version of this proactive expression of Salesian spirituality also in our EAO provinces?
