PGS Vice-province, 25 December 2020 -- The Silver Jubilee Celebrations of Don Bosco Mission in Solomon Islands (1995-2020) were also affected by the pandemic year restrictions. But the gratitude to all Salesian missionaries - SDB, FMA sisters, Lay mission partners, numerous volunteers, lay mission partners, youth and first local members of the Salesian family is expressed in many ways. One of them is the 12 page online 'Chronicles' with the main events, achievement since 1995. We remember many of the founders and their superiors, especially the late Bishop Mizobe Osamu, SDB (1940-2017) who was behind the initial stage of this mission.

  • Salesian parish of Christ the King, Tetere (1995)
  • Don Bosco Technical Institute, Henderson (2000)
  • Don Bosco Rural Training Center, Tetere (2000)
  • Radio Bosco FM 89.9 (2005-2010)
  • Salesian Bishops in Gizo (2007)
  • Aspirantate in Henderson
  • Prison Ministry (Tetere - Honiara)
  • FMA Sisters in Solomon Islands
  • Visit of the Rector Major (2015)
  • First Salesian Cooperators of Solomon Islands

It's remarkable the multi-cultural mixture of Don Bosco's Salesians who gave some years of their life to the starting mission in Solomon Islands: there were confreres from Japan, Bolivia, Mexico, India, Vietnam, Chile, Italy, Philippines, Korea, Papua New Guinea, Congo RD, Argentina, Sri Lanka, Slovakia and Solomon Islands: Salesian Priests, Salesian Brothers and practical trainees. While looking back with gratitude, we request your prayers for new Salesian consecrated vocations from the 'Hapi Isles' - Solomon Islands in the future!

The Salesian Family of Solomon Islands is slowly growing with hundreds of young people who have graduated from Don Bosco School in Henderson or the Rural Training Centre in Tetere, with the small group of first Salesian Cooperators. The FMA Sisters who arrived in this country in 2008 now have two communities, one in Henderson (Honiara archdiocese) and the other in Gizo diocese.
