Ulanbaatar - Mongolia Delegation, 15 December 2020 -- Although the Salesians were invited by the late bishop Wenceslaus Padilla, CICM, to take over the mission station of Shuwuu (30 km from Ulanbaatar) only 4 years ago, some 300 families of this 'ger' (portable round tent) district have been getting water from the Catholic mission already since 1998. The witness of the Shuwuu Holy Family catechist, Ms Solongo in the short video, opens a deep insight into the daily reality of ordinary Mongolian countryside citizens. For the whole year people come to the 'Catholic well' and take potable water to their houses for free in different kind of plastic containers , some 10-15 litres per family.

Our Shuwuu 300 families are part of the 1.1 billion people who still lack fair access to water around the world. In many places of Mongolia water is a scarce commodity, often brought by trucks to the villages.

This is just one of the Salesian solidarity and service expressions. The 2020 October 'DB MONGOLIA' YouTube channel 3 minute video features the 'Clean Water Services' in this Don Bosco setting. The video editing done by Fr Jaroslav Vracovsky (Czech SDB missionary) might be a good resource also for environment education all around the EAO region.

Since last July 2020, the Mongolia PDO (Planning and Development Office) Director, Br. Andrew Le Phuong, has been publishing a regular 'Newsletter' (8 pages) in English and Korean as an important bridge between the potential donors or benefactors of the Salesian mission in Mongolia. Especially during this very difficult year where all of Mongolia has been in lockdown since January, the social services, like the Caring Center in Ulanbaatar, are very much appreciated and serving many children and youth in need.

Our hope is that the Clean Water Service and other grass-root missions of Don Bosco in Mongolia will become better known and attract more generous people around the world to contribute.
