"The School is a Field for Evangelization”

By THA SC

Banpong, Thailand, 8 November 2020 -- On 29 October 2020, the Department of Social Studies, Religion and Culture of Sarasit Phithayalai School, Banpong, Ratchaburi Province, organized a moral education seminar for the 400 high school students who follow the Buddhist religion, under the theme "Creating A Society Against Corruption" with the two famous Buddhist monks - Phra Maha Sompong Talaputto and Phra Ajarn Somphong Rattanawangso, as resource persons. The event was held at Chierawanon Hall of Sarasit School. On this occasion, some members of the teaching staff and a group of parents were also present.

This activity was part of the efforts to implant in the students to be pious in their religion and be honest citizens. At present, Fr. Camillus Chinawat is the school principal.

Furthermore, 95% of the Thai citizens follow Buddhism. There are about 400,000 Catholics or 0.4% of the population. Even though about 95% of the students in our Salesian schools are Buddhists and there are some Catholics and those of other religions, yet they all can live together in peace and harmony. The school, therefore, becomes a field for sowing the good news. The students absorb the atmosphere of love and gospel values through the various activities organized by the school. Aside from this, the Catholic students receive special attention by means of the teaching catechism, the spiritual recollections and the reception of the sacraments.
