Boroko, Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, 7 February 2020 -- The Opening mass of the Holy Spirit for Don Bosco Technological Institute, Boroko was held on 7 February 2020 at the Upon conclusion of the Shrine of Mary Help of Christians, Boroko. Fr. Alexander Garces SDB, Rector was the celebrant, while the boarding students animated the celebration.


Nerves were calmed and anxiety dissipated as everyone found their voices and sang together the entrance hymn “Deep in the spirit”, signaling the beginning of the Eucharistic celebration. Fr. Alex Garces SDB, in his homily captured the attention of the wide-eyed congregation with an oration about the Holy Spirit being ones source of inspiration and endurance. With numerous quotes and references to technical apparatus he reinforced his message of perseverance and hard work, with the guidance of the Holy Spirit.


The congregation lifted up their hearts in prayer at the Prayer of the faithful. The DBTI staff were presented to the student body by Fr. Alex Garces SDB prior to the last rites. “Walk in the light” brought the Eucharist celebration to a close.


The conclusion of the mass capped off a week of orientation, which was has left several freshmen with a multitude of sensations. Upon inquiry several 1st year students summed up the week with such remarks;

Class lunch and a final session of fun games soon followed. Appetites were relieved the end of the celebration signaled the completion of an entertaining week, leaving everyone to prepare for the toil that lies ahead.
