Gabutu, Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, 12 December 2019 -- The Educative Pastoral Community of Don Bosco Technical School, Gabutu concluded the year on 5 December with an early Christmas celebration. The theme “Emmanuel: God is with us”was artistically designed on the background.

The Christmas carol festival was divided into three parts. The first was the Christmas tree competition, second was the Christmas play telling the story of the birth of Jesus which was the highlight of the day and the third is the Bung Kaikai(class party) and the fun games.

In preparation towards the celebration, the students of each class-built Christmas Trees out of waste materials (non-biodegradable) to showcase their skills learnt in school whilst being environmentally friendly. The Christmas trees were built around the school campus which was later judged and the best Christmas tree was awarded. Congratulations to these following classes who impressed the judges with their creative Christmas Trees; ITC 1 Electrical B securing the 1st place followed by ITC 1 Motor Vehicle Mechanic B securing the 2nd place and 11 Srugi finished in 3rdplace.

The students put up the Christmas play to remind themselves of the true meaning of Christmas when God became man to live on earth with us. Between the scenes, carols were sung and Christmas was the feeling shared on that day by Salesians, Educators and Students.

The day ended with farewell to the Salesian Priests of the community; Fr. Angel Sanchez, Fr. Shoji Mathew and Fr. Ambrose Pereira. ‘Every ending has a new beginning.’The new year 2020 will be a new start for the Salesians to move on to their next post of work. The students with the school band dedicated a song to the priests, entitled: “For the one” by Brian and Jenn Johnson. It was a song to tell them how much of a fatherly figure they have been during the past as well as to wish all of them farewell.

Lunch was prepared by classes as everyone shared with love and enjoyed each other’s company. The students carry with them the joy and happiness of Christ, the new born King.
