Do you feel the call to become a Missionary Ad Gentes?
RMG - Sacro Cuore, Rome, 10 December 2019 -- The by now traditional Salesian Appeal for Missionaries for the coming year (2020), the 151st Missionary Expedition, was launched by the Rector Major on 8 December 2019 through his video message (YouTube ANS Channel) in all major languages.
The five minute video highlights the 'Salesian Missionary Ad Gentes Register' (1875-2019) with all 9520 names of Salesian missionaries who were sent through the annual missionary expedition since 11th November 1875 until now.
Although the Rector major does not mention any concrete mission destination, Fr. Angel challenges the Salesian Brothers, Fathers and young confreres in initial formation with this "enthusiastic missionary appeal and with a strong conviction.This is our reality and this is also the identity of our Congregation. You know that Don Bosco carried a great missionary passion in his heart."
And in the light of this passion, the Successor of Don Bosco addresses the Provinces, his confreres, the whole Congregation, so that they may always be generous and never give up listening to the Lord.
Each Salesian missionary vocation is a fruit of serious discernment, which includes the application letter addressed to the Successor of Don Bosco (cf. the Salesian Mission Day 2015 samples - attached).
Within the EAO region already few weeks ago another group of young Salesians (postnovitiate in Dalat, Vietnam) submitted their applications for the 151st missionary expedition. Indeed according the mind of the Congregation, the postnovitiate stage is the most fitting period of Salesian life for the missionary vocation discernment.
We pray for more generous and committed confreres who would answer this call of God and leave their own comfort zone in order to become a gift for the young people in other part of the world!
