Formation in Media Education

Hua Hin, Thailand -- On 14 September 2019, the Thai Salesian Social Communications sector organized a formation session on educational media among the Salesian seminarians and the aspirants of the Sisters Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (SIHM). The 41 participants received education on the theme "The Young - Media Savvy, Creative and Happy". This was held at the Salesian Retreat House, Hua-Hin, Prachuabkhirikhan Province. The formation was facilitated by Sr. Wirinthip Inyaem, provincial delegate for Social Communication of Daughters of Mary Help of Christians in Thailand and her team.
In the morning, Sr. Nittaya Yaowasang, the former Mother Provincial of the FMA, was the resource person. She led the reflection on the apostolic letter of the Pope on the occasion of the 53rd Mass Media Day on the theme: "We are members of one another" [Eph 4,25]. She emphasized that true freedom is to choose the best among the good. From there, Sr. Wirinthip led the participants to know Don Bosco who was a mass media person. In the afternoon, the participants learned about the various kinds of media. They were made aware that one has to have discipline in the use of the media, without becoming its slave, but to use them creatively, through joyful games which bring knowledge and enjoyment. The formation went smoothly. The resource persons summarized at the end that the best media is our very own life that follows the example of Don Bosco who communicated the love of God to the young.
