New book: Conversations with Bishop Luc Van Looy, SDB

By Our Own Correspondent

Ghent, Belgium, 11 July 2019 -- Belgian (Flemish) Salesian Bishop Luc Van Looy is one among 130 Salesian bishops around the world. When he was about to celebrate his 75th Birthday in 2016 ... Mr. Emmanuel Van Lierde, editor-in-chief of the Christian weekly 'Tertio' and native son of Ghent was able to engage in long conversations with Bishop Luc. The Dutch original was published in 2017: 'Netwerker van God voor de mensen. Gesperkken met Mgr. Luc Van Looy' by Hlewijn (www.halewijn.info). The English version of the 'Conversations' was published by the 'Missioni Salesiane' (Salesian Mission Office - Turin, Italy).

The content of the 'Conversations' cover a large variety of Salesian spirituality and Salesian culture themes which follow Bishop Luc's life story: A son of Flanders becoming a Son of Don Bosco; Salesian Pedagogy; Making the World a Better Place; The Accordion Priest of Korea; From Mission to a Missionary Church; Exploring the universal church from Rome; Sent to Ghent; Walking with the People of God; The Bishop's Soul and The Future Smiles at Us. Over 200 pages contain many stories from Belgium, South Korea and then from all around the Salesian world through his visits as General Councilor for the Missions, for Youth Ministry and later as the Vicar of the Rector Major. Of course, most of the photos are from the last 15 years as the Bishop of Ghent, Belgium, where Bishop Luc was able to share the Salesian lifestyle and spirituality at the service of the local Church. Through more than 100 colour photos the reader can grasp the rich variety of contexts, encounters and life experiences of Bishop Van Looy.

We would like this most valuable book to reach many Salesians in the EAO region, where Bishop Luc is still well known, although he left his mission land of Korea way back in 1984. Orders can be made by email to: commandes@halex.be; 26 USD and and additional 5.50 USD for the postal fee.
