Nakasi (Suva) Fiji Islands, 8 July 2019 -- Fr William Matthews arrived on Thursday afternoon (4 July 2019) for the visitation of the Suva Community. The question, “Are you happy in your vocation?” was the theme of the opening talk. Even though we have heard that question many times before, to hear it again this time as the theme of the Provincial’s Visitation made us stop and think.

During our personal dialogue with the Provincial, we had the opportunity to share our thoughts and progress in the areas of formation, accompaniment and how we approach the Salesian mission in Fiji.

When the young confreres got together with the Provincial as a group, we had another opportunity to talk about how to create a better formation environment and take our responsibilities seriously.

On Sunday (7 July), Fr. William met with the Sunday school (Catechetics) students. He mentioned how happy he is to see them again and witness how alive the mission in Fiji Islands is.

After our Catechism classes we took some few photos with the Provincial and the students who come from the villages of Makoi, Muanikoso and Nakasi.

The Visitation concluded with the closing talk on Sunday (7 July) evening, and the celebration of the Eucharist on Monday (8 July) which included the installation of Br. Sinapati Ioane to the ministry of Acolyte.

Concelebrating at the Eucharist were Fr Paselio Tevaga (Rector), Fr. Mika Leilua (Parish Priest) and Fr James Kyaw-Hoe (Director of Novices). A few friends and supporters of the Salesian Community were also present at this closing Eucharist.

At the end, when Fr. William said, “Go, in the peace of Christ!” we all literally “went”… the Brothers and Fr Jim to the seminary and Fr Paselio took the Provincial to the airport… for the next Visitation in Samoa.
