EAO economers 2019

Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, 7 March, 2019 -- The annual meeting of EAO Provincial Economers was held last March 3-6, 2019 in Emmaus Retreat House, Port Moresby (PNG) near the Provincial House of PGS (Papua New Guinea - Solomon Islands). Br. Jean Paul Muller (Economer General) with his Assistant Br. Alberto Rodriguez and Advisers Mr Janko Jochimssen (Germany) and Mr Fabio Buconi (Italy), took part with a further 21 SDB and Lay mission partners coming from 12 EAO provinces and 4 delegations. Upon a suggestion from Br. Jean Paul Muller also the South Asia regional coordinator for Economy, Fr Xavier Pakiam took part for the first time.


The following items were on the 2019 agenda for the Economers meeting: Presentation of the new Handbook of the Provincial Economer (Boscolink - for download), Economy rendiconto and risk evaluation in the Salesian Congregation and main input from Br. Jean Paul about Economy at the service of the Salesian Charism and Mission.


Each EAO economer reported on the Planning and Budgeting in his own province and about the progress of the provincial PDO (Planning and Development Office) and Mission Office (Boscolink for download): at present there are 9 PDOs, 4 Province Mission Offices already established and two provinces are starting with their Mission Office (FIS, TLS, VIE).


All participants appreciated the typical Melanesian hospitality, enjoyed the Good night talks of Br. Roberto (Cambodia) and Br. Marko (Korea) as well listening to best practices happening in the South Asia Region (12 provinces of India and Sri Lanka). At the end of the meeting as usual, under the guidance of the EAO Coordinator Fr Andy Satura (FIS) the lines of action for he coming year were drafted.


The PGS Viceprovince hosted the first EAO regional meeting after its establishment in 2016. Also on the program was the exciting Port Moresby city tour and direct encounter with the colourful Melanesian cultures of PNG, with more than 800 different local languages, dozens of which can be met in both of the Port Moresby Salesian education institutions - DBTI East Boroko and DBTS Gabutu.
