Thailand-Cambodia-Laos (THA) Province extraordinary visitation starts

By Fr. Ekasit Andrea, SDB

Bangkok, Thailand, 25 August 2018 -- Today on August 25, Fr Václav Klement, Councillor for the East Asia-Oceania Region, started his Extraordinary Visitation of Thailand - Cambodia - Laos (THA) Province of St Paul, which will end on 31 October.

He was welcomed at the airport by the Provincial Fr. John Bosco Theparat Pitisant and two ADMA members of Bangkok group and at the Provincial house by the present Salesians as well by the bishop of Surrathani diocese Joseph Prathan, SDB.

The 98 professed Salesians and 2 novices are living and working in 16 communities: 13 in Thailand, 3 in Cambodia and one in Laos: 65 Salesian Priests, 14 Salesian Brothers, 17 candidates to the priesthood (2 deacons, 6 students of theology, 3 practical trainees and 6 postnovices). In two aspirantates there are 63 students and in the only formation house of Sampran there are 2 prenovices.

The Salesian Family of Thailand-Cambodia-Laos (THA) Province is very large: apart of the SDB, FMA, VDB Salesian Cooperators, Don Bosco and MHC Alumni and ADMA there are also three SF groups born in Thailand: DQM secular institute (Daugthers of Queenship of Mary, SQM (Sisters of Queenship of Mary) and SIHM (Servants of Immaculate Heart of Mary).

The extraordinary visitation is held usually every 6 years and last 2012 Fr. Chavez entrusted the THA province visitation to Fr. Andrew Wong. There are three main goals of these two months - to foster the communion between the Rector major and the province, each community and each confrere; to animate the SDB, Salesian Family and contribute to the ongoing growth of the Salesian charism through evaluation of past 6 years with a view on near future.
