Two Vietnamese missionaries will be ordained in Ireland

By Dcn Dominic Binh Nguyen, SDB

Maynooth, Ireland, 29 June 2018 -- With praise and gratitude to the Almighty God, two us us, Paul Binh and Dominic Binh will be ordained priest on Sunday, 15th July 2018 in Saint Patrick’s College, Maynooth, Co. Kildare, Ireland by Archbishop of Dublin, Mons. Martin Diarmuid.

Reflecting on my missionary life since I came to Ireland in 2011, I could see that God who sent me to Ireland, is continually guiding and preparing me in my Salesian vocation. I am very grateful for the great support and encouragement of the local Salesians from the very first moment of my Salesian missionary life in Ireland. Without them, I would not be able to cope and overcome with such challenges and difficulties in terms of language, culture, mentality, and faith of the people.

Moreover, I felt very blessed in the last ten months as I was doing a Pastoral Theology course. It gave the wonderful and meaningful experiences of ministering God’s people in many different areas such as in parish, in school, in youth club, and in hospital. During those times, I had experienced and learned how to engage and talk with the people about their spirituality, faith, concerns, and feelings in wherever they are at, especially with young people.

After my ordination, I will be sent to work in one of our schools as a chaplain. I am looking forward to working with about seven hundred young people and seventy staff in the school. I believe what I have learned and experienced in the last seven years would help me in my role as a Salesian chaplain in Ireland in the twenty first century.

May God always be our guide and strength so that He will enable to spread the Good News of the Kingdom of God to young people, especially the poor and the abbandoned.

NB: Just few days ago, Mons. Luc Van Looy (=his name is on the invitation card) informed us that he could not come to Ireland to ordain us because his Auxiliary Bishop is very sick at the moment. We then asked the Archbishop of Dublin, Mons. Martin Diarmuid to ordain us. Because the change occurred very close to our ordination so we didn't change the name of the ordaining bishop in our invitation card.
