Two from EAO for the new provincial course

By Our Own Correspondent

RMG, 23 June 2017 -- After two weeks (June 11-23) was concluded the new provincial course held regularly during the summer plenary session of the general council in Rome. This time seven participants coming from South Asia, Africa, Latin Ameria and East Asia (THA, ITM) were united not only in Don Bosco spirit, but also through English - their main common language.

Among the 7 new provincials were two appointed for the second time - Fr. Francisco Sanchez (Ecuador) and Fr. John Bosco Theparat Pitisant (Thailand, Cambodia, Laos) - both of them appreciated by the other five 'novices' for their rich experience sharing. All English speakers were helped by Fr. Nestor Impelido (FIN) as official interpreter from Italian to English in the 'classroom' as well during the different field experience - like the Vatican excursion.

During the last supper in the evening of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Solemnity was a time to give thanks to the community of the General House. Each new provincial expressed in few words his personal enrichment:

  • We felt like the disciples to Emmaus - we were accompanied.
  • Now we feel more motivated for accompaniment of our confreres.
  • We learnt here how to be a servant leader: sharing the life, prayer, meals and talking to the Rector Major and council members personally every day.
  • We felt the family and service spirit of this large community and we will bring it home.
  • We learnt about various aspects of the Salesian charism and were enriched by the mutual sharing during these days.
  • ...

The two week new provincial course is offered twice a year, always 6 or 12 months after the installation. During past few years the dynamics are more interactive, involving the participants in life sharing or faith sharing (Lectio Divina). Aside of the joint study the new provincials have ample time for a personal talk to the Rector Major and all councilors for the sectors.
