Salesian Youth Day (Primary Section)

By Miss Phyllis Tang

Salesian Youth Ministry Coordinator

Hong Kong, 30 June 2018 -- The annual event Salesian Youth Day (Primary Section) was held on 30 June in Salesian Yip Hon Millennium Primary School. The theme of the day was “We Are Family”, hoping that through various activities, the young participants may learn the ways to communicate in the family. More than 100 participants, which came from 6 primary schools of the Salesian Family in Hong Kong, attended the event.

To begin the day, students from the hosting school led the crowd to dance action songs and performed some juggling. Then, the teenage animators from the Salesian Youth Movement animated the rest of the day. Besides the icebreaking games, they designed 4 special activities to introduce concrete methods to communicate with family members: face-to-face communication, showing concern for the others, being attentive and engaging in dialogue.

The day was concluded with a prayer service, which began with a conversation between little John Bosco and his mother Margaret – they did not only speak well of the others, but they truly lived it. Highlighting the biblical motto of the event, “Children, let us love not in word or speech but in deed and truth” (1Jn 3:18), Fr. Antonio Leung, Delegate of Youth Ministry, proposed to the young participants to put their family members as first priority as the best and most direct way of communication, for instance: sharing food, giving seats, taking the initiative to call with phone or message. It was an invitation to all that we could pray one Hail Mary for our family every night, asking for the protection of our heavenly mother.
