Short animation visit of Don Bosco Past Pupils

in Southern Philippines

By Mr. Alberto Piedade

Cebu, the Philippines, 27 July 2018 -- On 26 July, Mr. Alberto Piedade and Mr. Angel Gudiña travelled to Cebu from Manila together with Fr. Exequiel Veloso, SDB (Ike), Vice-President of National Federation as well as President of BICC, Mr. Arnel Dimalanta and National Secretary of the Philippines DB Past Pupils, Ms. Juvy Montalbo to meet with all the local chapters in the South Province of FIS.

It was a quite impressive meeting that was even becoming more meaningful with the presence of SDB Provincial, Fr. Godofredo Atienza and other FIS SDB Council members and Alumni Delegates Fr. Eugene Macasanlag and Fr. Joriz Calsa - Provincial delegate for Youth Ministry.

Bro. Louie Domasian, SDB as the Delegate for the past pupils in the South Province welcomed the councilors together with some young Alumni at the Cebu-Mactan airport. The meeting with five of seven local chapters (i.e. DB Victorias, DB Cebu Inc., DB Ppol, DB Mati and Dumaguete) and a great news that in DB Cebu Inc. recently was recently established a new local chapter in TVET for the young DB past pupils (GEX), whose president is Ms. Flor.

Great enthusiasm, strong group engagement and immense support from the Salesians including the Provincial really pushes the chapters to engage more and more past pupils in this province. Even young past pupils are active and participative.

Mr. Alberto Piedade, Councilor of GEX Asia-Oceania also was given opportunity to meet directly with 12 young past pupils from DB Cebu Inc. and Victorias. The meeting took place after Bro. Louie, SDB guided the Federation meeting - started with the DB Past Pupils Prayer and Promise, then presentation of Province's chapters report and update from each president, followed by briefings from the two councilors on the World Confederation strategies, flagship projects, Boscon.sk website, Best Practice and GEX.

It was one impressive meeting with lots of information sharing and initiatives presented on GEX and World Confederation priorities were positively embraced and implemented into the chapters programs. Philippines in general is on the right track and can be a champion as an encouraging examples to our region.

The meeting was closed with a fraternity dinner hosted by the past pupils. The councilors were appreciative and feeling extremely proud because Fr. Godofredo, SDB stayed the entire time with the past pupils together with all the other salesians. Although, the next day two more meetings were previously by FIS to meet with GEX in two other schools, however due to typhoon hit in Japan, the councilors were advised to travel one day ahead on 27 July. Nonetheless, the two Salesian Delegates for FIS and FIN and team continued to represent the councilors in the meeting and inform the young past pupils of the 3 GEX programs: 1) School of Leaders, 2) Youth Exchange Program and 3) Job Voluntary Service.

May the mission of Don Bosco be fruitful even more and more in the two Filipino provinces (FIS-FIN) that they may be the force of encouragement to large Asia-Oceania region.
