Planning and Development Office (PDO) 

World meeting 2018 in Nairobi

RMG, 1 March 2018 -- Seven years after the 2011 Hyderabad Global Salesian seminar on the PDO (Planning and Development Office) many PDO Directors and their team members will fly to Nairobi, Kenya next April 24-27, 2018.

After few years of evaluation, survey and follow up the next few years Road Map for the Salesian PDO is made public, finally approved last October 2017: "General Guidelines of the Model and Tasks of the Provincial Planning and Development Office in the Salesian World". This Road Map is the main working document.

The 30 page document indicated an integral approach based already on long experience at the province (50+) level, regional level (especially Africa - Madagascar and South Asia region) and world level (study and animation group of the Don Bosco Network since 2014).

The content of the Road Map (version 2017) are very concrete:

Nature Principles : Structure and position in the Province




Specific tasks of the PDO




1. Research, analysis and identification


2. Design and simplification of the strategic planning


3. Implementation of the strategic planning and constant assessment of the solutions, activities and sectors


4. Acquisition of resources


5. Support in the development of the procedures and policies of the Province


6. Networking


7. Awareness-raising and social mobilization, pressure groups, political impact


8. Volunteer work


9. Coordination in case of emergencies

The Planning and Development Offices in our EAO region are not yet well developed, most of the provinces still looks at PDO in Cebu (FIS) as the point reference with more than 20 years of solid experience. During past 2-3 years are taking off the PDO in Dili (ITM - Timor Leste), Ho Chin Minh City (VIE), Manila (FIN) and Melbourne (AUL). Especially the participation from starting PDO like Phnom Penh (THA - Cambodia Delegation), Anisakan (MYM Viceprovince) is rather important for a solid foundations.

We wish all those who are preparing for the Nairobi PDO seminar a fruitful sharing and deep insight for the progress of their important tool for the development of Salesian mission.
