Suva, Fiji, 16 May 2019 -- Fr Vaclav arrived in Fiji on the Friday, 10 May. His visitation to the community here in Suva brought news of great joy from the whole region and a message from the Rector Major strengthening our understanding of the Strenna 2019: “HOLINESS FOR YOU TOO,” encouraging every student in this formation house to dare to be holy. Upon his arrival he also had a chance to visit the new parish centre and was able to visit homes and families of the parishioners. According to Fr Vaclav, after his visitation to the houses of the people, he was certain that the Salesians here in Fiji are in the right place.
He was also welcomed to the parish at a traditional kava ceremony performed by local Fijian chiefs. This was followed by a light meal prepared by the parish mothers. The children and youth of the parish’s Kiribati community provided some cultural entertainment.
Fr Vaclav’s presence in Fiji and in the new parish was a great reminder that our Salesian family is indeed large, strong, flexible and adaptable. Fr Vaclav left the community with a challenge and a message encouraging the young people of Fiji to dare to become saints and listen to the calling of the Holy Spirit. He also encouraged the promotion of vocations among Fijian youth.
