Inter-religious dialogue of life in Myanmar

By Fr. MC George, SDB
(RMG - Missions Sector: coordinator of the Mission Offices)

Mandalay, Myanmar, 27 March 2017 -- Mandalay Don Bosco community got a new dormitory and dining room for our street children center, thanks to a successful Jewish American retired businessman and his wife. On the photos together with the Salesians of Mandalay (In charge Fr. Peter Myo Khin) and their youth in need!

This man's own son was the Director of programming at one of the largest synagogues on the East coast of the US and his daughter has a Masters degree in social work. They KNOW what they are doing! This strongly Jewish couple is impressed by the dedicated work of Don Bosco for the neediest children around the world, with no prejudices on the basis of color, race, faith, gender, language or nationality.

This is the second project funded for the Salesians of Don Bosco by this foundation, and at least three more are in the pipeline. This project was blessed and inaugurated on March 19, 2017.

Baking is one of the trades for which training is given to those old enough to start vocational training. A Jewish sign board in a Catholic setting is the humour of this wonderful couple! Sitting side by side with Catholic religious and Budhist monks in the former royal city of Mandalay is a powerful sign of the one world village where we learn how to live and share together!

Myanmar Viceprovince (Provincial Fr. Charles Saw) is in the stage of foundation, with three newly starting vocation training centers and few boarding houses. The first reach out to the street children is in Mandalay, second largest city of Myanmar.
