Myitkyina, Kachin State, Myanmar, January 3 2022 -- On January 1 2022, as we welcomed the new year 2022 and celebrated the solemnity of the Holy Mother of God, a new parish of St Michael's Myo Thit Kyi, in Myikyina Diocese (Kachin State), was entrusted to Myanmar Salesians by His Eminence Cardinal Charles Bo, SDB, with a 5-year contract. The new parish priest is Fr Bosco Aung Zaw Win, SDB, who is also the rector of Don Bosco-Myitkyina Community. There were over 1,200 participants in the event.
The opening ceremony of the new parish began at 10:00 a.m, followed by celebration of the Holy Eucharistic, and ended with a colorful thanksgiving ceremony. During the celebration, 40 boys and girls received the Sacrament of Confirmation as well.
Together with all the parishioners, the Myanmar Salesians firstly gave thanks to God for the special gift of this new parish. And secondly, they are also grateful to Cardinal Charles Bo, SDB and brother priests from Myitkyina Diocese for their trust and warm welcome. This is why the Community of Don Bosco-Myitkyina has already prepared themselves to launch and animate the new parish with Salesian Family Spirit, especially with joy and optimism.
