Movie: The Resurrection

Seoul, South Korea, 17 July 2020 -- A second movie was released last January, focusing on on the legacy of Fr John Lee (1962-2010), Salesian Korean missionary in South Sudan (2001-2009). The documentary directed by the former KBS PD Ku Su Hwan was released 10 years after the 'Dont' Cry Tonj' movie by the same director.

"The Resurrection" is focused on the former students - past pupils - disciples of late Fr John Lee, who died from cancer in January 2010, after 9 years of missionary work as a Salesian priest, doctor, teacher and oratory animator in the town of Tonj (South Sudan) during the civil war. The movie presents no fewer than 70 of the Tonj Don Bosco Past Pupils, who over the years have become involved in the medical mission, serving their young country (South Sudan independence since 2011) - both in Ethiopia, South Korea and in South Sudan.

The producer and movie director, through annual visits to Tonj after 2010, gained personal knowledge and trust from many Don Bosco Past Pupils who tell their own story as the fruit of a sound Salesian education with many personal memories about Fr. John Lee in their Hansenian diseased village, in the Oratory or in the Don Bosco school. Through the Don Bosco Past Pupils personal growth featured by the documentary anybody can sense the impact of Don Bosco's style of education based on unconditional love for other people with joy and enthusiasm.

At present only the two minute trailer is available on YouTube and the presentation of the documentary by the Korean Catholic Bishops Conference news channel. Our hope is that like the 'Don't Cry Tonj' movie, also 'The Resurrection' will be available in due time with English subtitles. The Salesian province of Korea is celebrating this year, 2020, with a special focus on their famous missionary, with another documentary scheduled for the end of 2020.
