Hamamatsu, Japan, 10 November 2020 -- Since the start of the Covid19 pandemic, the Salesian community of Chofu (Tokyo, Japan, Rector: Fr. Nobyuki Tamura) continues step by step in small actions but with the proverbial Japanese resilience and effort in their solidarity action. From Chofu-Tokyo Salesian house to Hamamatsu (Shizuoka prefecture) is about 4 hours drive (260km) and the two SDB communities are now well connected through the 'Solidarity Channel'. More they help, more needs of the migrant families, jobless people or homeless they discover.

The Rector of Chofu community shares on his FB page:

"This time, we have delivered support supplies to the Catholic Hamamatsu church on 3rd Nov. We received a lot of donations from the Catholic parish of Kugenuma, such as food, living supplies, clothing, etc. The supplies of the Catholic Kugenuma Church have been divided into two deliveries.

From the students of Salesian Gakuin, we knew about people who were in need, even of food and the Yokohama community economer delivered the supplies he collected at his school to our house. Also, we give thanks very much to all of who have been able to send us supplies and continue to send us supplies during these difficult times. The supplies of this time will also be used for living needy (people who lost their jobs), homeless or Don Bosco learning support.

In Don Bosco learning support, we started making delicious snacks using the supplies that were delivered earlier. Don Bosco learning support is an after school support for children of foreign nationals who can't keep up with school classes (Japanese language and Mathematics). Learning support is held three days a week, and volunteers are supporting this learning in the form of individual tutoring. About 20 children, such as Peruvians and Brazilians, are coming to study now. The kids return home after their lesson and snacks. There are also some night shift guardians, so I'm always making something that can't be hungry. In the future, we are looking for supplies for the young people of migrant families and support them at Hamamatsu Catholic Church (Salesian parish). Thank you very much for your support!

And as usual here is the list of needed items:

Food: Rice (most important!), canned cereal, beans, sweets, flour, sugar, salt, jam or pasta. All food should be more than a month before the expiration date.

Life Supplies: Toilet Paper, Toothbrush, Toothpastes, Powder, Soap, Shampoo, Rinse, Laundry Detergent, Dishwasher (for homeless support: Socks and Underwear, Gloves, Hats. We are looking for clean washed stuff.

For the Youth learning support center we need a warm drink such as cocoa, corn soup or lemon tea. Another items: sweet curry (Retort) Spaghetti (Retort), Flavor Nori (for onigiri) sweets will also be made.

You can send it directly to Hamamatsu Catholic Church or send it to the Chofu Salesian Seminary
