ASC EAO Region, 4 October 2020 -- For the first time in history, the EAO Region Salesian Cooperators and their delegates met online on 3 October 2020 for two hours. Mr Philip Yu, World Councillor for the EAO region moderated the meeting, attended by Mr. Antonio Boccia, World Coordinator ASC, Br. Dominic Nam, World Delegate SDB, Fr Joseph Phuoc EAO Regional Councillor SDB and 30 Salesian Cooperators and Delegates from 20 different locations.
The World Coordinator shared briefly the solidarity during the pandemic with some ASC (Angola, Nicaragua etc) and introduced with a few slides all 11 ASC regions (members, aspirants and centers). Aside from the almost 30,000 promised members, the highest numbers of Aspirants are in the regions of Interamerica (USA, Canada, Mexico) with 816 and in Spain-Portugal region (603 aspirants).
Most of the time was dedicated to sharing the present situation and ‘Laudato Si’ environment action in each province. The large variety of situations made it really very interesting. From tree planting with young people (Samoa), Laudato Si awareness campaign (Korea), No trash policy in SF meetings (FIN), stop the use of plastic bags (GIA) to reforestation action (TLS). Since 4 October is the last day of the ‘Season of Creation’, all participants were encouraged to continue the path of Don Bosco Green Alliance in their ordinary activities.
Among the common traits is also a constant growth of new ASC vocations: in Samoa at present time some 15 Aspirants are almost ready for their promise, Vietnam province is excited to receive a promise of 51 young Cooperators (Oct 4).
Br. Dominic Nam has prepared an enthusiastic message (full text on Boscolink). Starting from the short message of Fr. Joan Lluis Playa (Delegate of the RM for the Salesian Family), he has developed three points on the daily miracles of solidarity, mission going beyond our activities and a strong sense of communion in the Salesian Family to be really the salt of the earth and light of the world:
“Thank to this blessed technology we can still be in touch and get closer to one another. It allows us to reach out to many people. With just one click, we can see thousands of meaningful works done in different parts of the world. It is true that miracles happen everyday before our eyes…. People who make miracles happen everyday, are members of the Salesian family all over the world.
…We also can ask ourselves the same question as SDB during their Chapter 28: “What kind of Salesian Cooperators for the youth of today?” How should we live our vocation actively and how do we share the mission with the Salesians? Also in Valdocco we have our model, the first lay cooperator, Mamma Margaret. She cooperated with her son until her last breath. She dedicated her life totally for the salvation of the poor youth. Sometimes we confuse mission with work, with activities. Instead, mission is a response to God’s call; it consists in bringing God to people, people to God and bringing people to Creation to protect the Nature…
… My dear Salesian Cooperators - eco-friendly Salesian Cooperators - with your unique identity, your presence in the Salesian mission, in your working place and in the world. You should have a strong sense of communion with the other members of the Salesian Family. You commit yourselves to the same mission to youth and to ordinary folk in a fraternal and united way. (PAL art. 6) and art. 16 says: “Salesian Cooperators know they are “in intimate solidarity”with the society in which they live and for which they are called to be light, salt, and leaven”.
Also the new EAO SDB Regional Councillor Fr. Phuoc raised the spirits of the participants with his clear message about reciprocity of relationships within the Salesian Family, where we need each other: Without the Salesian Cooperators the SDBs can’t keep their identity and also without the support of the SDB our Salesian Cooperators would not be able to live fully their Salesian lay vocation in the world.
Among the 35 participants all 8 EAO SC provinces (CIN, FIN, FIS, GIA, KOR, THA, TLS and VIE) were present, together with some other groups (not yet established as provinces) like Mongolia, Samoa, Singapore and Myanmar. The meeting was a good chance to welcome many new Delegates – Fr. Lourenco Neves (TLS), Fr Bosco Park (KOR), Fr Noby Tamura (GIA), Fr Peter Niphon (THA). Also the ‘solemn’ presentation of the newly born Timor Leste province by their Coordinators and the presence of 4 FMA delegates (CIN, FIN, TLS, THA) was appreciated a lot.
Looking forward, probably this kind of EAO meeting is not the last. Although we missed some members (Cambodia, Indonesia, PNG, Solomon Islands and Pakistan, Australia, New Zealand) and not all the technical glitches were solved immediately – this first online meeting is a breakthrough for bridging distances in the large EAO region.
Next EAO Regional Congress was the last point of the agenda. Indeed due to the Covid19 restrictions also the EAO Salesian Cooperators missed their July 2020 Congress in Vietnam. Mr. Antonio Boccia announced that due to the pandemic the World Council will bring some guidelines for all 11 Regional Congress around the world during their incoming meeting on Oct 17, 2020.
The EAO Salesian Cooperators made a history with this meeting. Now they are even closer than before, for some of them just ‘one click’ distance to far away lands. We wish the communion among the 2500 Salesian Cooperators in our Region will grow step by step.

2020.10.03. 역사상 처음으로 EAO 협력자들과 담당자들은 온라인으로 모임을 가졌다. EAO담당 세계워원 유필립형제가 사회를 맡아 진행하였고, 살레시오 협력자 세계위원인 안토니오 보차(Mr. Antonio Boccia)형제, EAO지구담당 세계평의원 요셉 푸옥신부님(Fr. Joseph Phuoc), 그리고 20개 여러 지역의 30여명의 협력자와 담당자들이 참석하였다.
협력자 세계위원장은 이번 코로나사태 기간 동안 일부 협력자들(앙골라,니카라구아 등)과 연대했던 소식을 간략히 나누었으며,몇 장의 자료를 통하여 11개지구의 협력자회 현황(구성원수,지원자, 센터수)을 소개하였다. 현재 서약협력자들은 거의 3만명에 이르고 있으며, 지원자들의 수가 가장 많은 곳은 816명의 중남미(미국,카나다,멕시코)와 603명의 스페인-포르투칼지구이다.
이번 회의의 대부분의 시간은 각
관구의 현재 상황과 ‘찬미받으소서’환경 활동 나눔이었다. 여러 상황에 따른 활동은 매우 흥미로웠다. 나무심기(사모아), ’찬미받으소서’에 대한 인식의 중요성(한국),쓰레기근절 방침(북필립핀),비닐봉지 사용금지(일본),숲 재건(동티모르)등이 그것이다. 또한10월4일은 창조시기의 마지막 날로, 참가자들로 하여금 일상생활에서 돈 보스코 녹색 연합의 여정을 계속하도록 격려하였다.
공통적인 사항은 살레시오 협력자 성소의 지속적 증가이다. 현재 사모아에서는 15명의 지원자들이 거의 서약을 앞두고 있으며, 베트남 관구는 10월4일 51명의 젊은 새협력자들의 서약으로 매우 신이나 있는 상황이다.
세계담당자 남수사님은 열정적인 메시지(전문은 보스코링크Boscolink참조)를 준비해주셨다.살레시오 가족 담당 요한 루이스 플라야신부님(Fr. Joan Lluis Playa (Delegate of the RM for the Salesian Family)의 간략한 메시지 전달에 이어,수사님은 세가지 요소 곧, 일상 안에서 연대하는 기적, 우리의 활동 너머에 있는 사명, 그리고 살레시오 가족 안에서 강한 친교 의식은 진정한 세상의 소금과 빛이되리라고 말씀하셨다.
“이 복된 기술력에 힘입어 오늘 우리는 여전히 서로 연락을 취하고 보다 친밀해 질 수 있습니다. 이는 우리로 하여금 많은 이들에게 다다르게 해줍니다. 한번의 클릭으로 우리는 세상의 여러 지역에서 행한 수 많은 의미있는 일들을 볼 수 있습니다. 사실 우리의 눈 앞에서 날마다 많은 기적들이 일어나고 있습니다...날마다 기적을 이루는 사람들은 전세계의 살레시오 가족 구성원들입니다.
또한 우리는 28차 총회에서 살레시오회 회원들이 했던 똑 같은 질문을 우리들에게도 물어 볼 수 있습니다. “오늘날의 젊은이들을 위해 우리는 어떤 유형의 살레시오 협력자가 되어야 하는가?” 우리의 성소를 어떻게 능동적으로 살아가야 하는가? 어떻게 여타 살레시안들과 사명을 공유할 수 있는가? 우리는 또한 발도코에 우리들의 모범을 갖고 있는데 그 분은 바로 첫번째 평신도 협력자이신 맘마 마르게리타이십니다. 그 분은 돌아가실 때까지 아들과 함께하셨습니다. 그녀는 자신의 삶을 가난한 젊은이들을 위하여 온전히 헌신하셨습니다. 때로 우리는 사명을 일, 활동과 혼돈합니다. 사명은 하느님의 부르심에 응답하는 것입니다. 그것은 하느님을 사람들에게 이끄는 것,사람들을 하느님께로 이끌고, 자연을 보호하도록 온 세상에로 이끄는 것입니다...
환경 친화적이며, 고유의 신원과 살레시오 가족 안에서의 현존과 함께, 일터와 세상안에서 살아가고 있는 친애하는 살레시오 협력자들이여. 여러분은 다른 살레시오 가족 구성원들과 강한 친교의식을 가지고 있어야 합니다. 회헌 제6조에는 여러분은 형제애와 일치의 정신으로 청소년과 가난한 서민을 위한 동일한 사명에 헌신하고 있습니다. 또한 제16조에는 “살레시오 협력자는 그들이 살아가고 있는, 빛과 소금과 누룩이 되라고 불리움 받은 사회와 밀접히 결합되어 있음을 알고 있다”라고 씌어 있습니다.”
새로이 선출된 EAO 담당 세계총평의원이신 푸옥 신부님(Fr. Phuoc)은 서로 서로를 필요로 하는 살레시오 가족 안에서의 상호의존 관계를 분명히 말씀하시면서 참여 정신을 일깨웠다. 곧, 협력자들이 없이는 살레시오 회원들은 자신의 신원을 유지할 수 없고, 또한 살레시오 회원의 도움이 없이는 협력자들은 세상에서 그들의 평신도 소명을 온전히 살아갈 수 없다는 것이다.
이번 회의에 참여한 35명은 전체 8개 관구(중국,남필립핀,북필립핀,일본,한국,태국,동티모르,베트남)와 아직 관구에 이르지 않은 몽고,사모아,싱가폴,미얀마 나라들로 부터이다. 이번 회의를 통하여 많은 새로이 선출된 담당자들이 환영 인사를 하였다. 로우렌코 네베스(Fr. Lourenco Neves)신부님(동티모르),박 보스코(한국)신부님,노비 다무라신부님(Fr Noby Tamura)신부님,피터 니퐁(Fr Peter Niphon)신부님(태국)이 그들이다. 또한 새로 설립된 동티모르관구의 위원장의 진지한 프리젠테이션이 있었으며, 네분의 수녀회 담당자(중국,남필립핀,동티모르,태국)께도 많은 감사의 인사가 있었다.
앞으로도 이러한 EAO회의는 계속될 것으로 보인다. 비록 우리가 이번에 원거리의 일부 회원들(캄보디아,인도네시아, 파푸아 뉴기니,솔로몬제도,파키스탄)을 만나지못하고 모든 기술적인 문제들이 즉시 해결되지는 못하였지만, 금번의 첫번째 온라인 회의는 거대한 EAO지구 의 격지간 연결의 돌파구가 되었다.
마지막 안건은 다음번 EAO지구 대회에 관한 것이었다.이번 코로나 사태에 따른 이동 제한으로 금번 6월의 베트남 대회는 개최하지 못하였다. 협력자 세계위원장 안토니오 보챠씨는 2020.10.17.일 열릴 세계위원회 회의에서 코로나 사태에 따른 전세계 11개 지구를 위한 지침을 발표할 예정이다.
EAO 협력자들은 이번 회의를 통하여 하나의 역사를 이루었다. 이제는 아주 멀리 떨어진 곳도 단지 한번의 클릭 거리가 되어 심지어는 보다 서로 가까워지게 되었다. 향후 우리 지구의 2,500여명 협력자들간의 친교가 점차 증진되기를 바란다.
