AFW: 16 novices professed today from Liberia, Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone

ONDO (Nigeria): 4th August --  At 5 pm on August 4th at the Don Bosco Centre Oke Odunwo-Ondo, Nigeria, 16 young Africans will make their first religious profession.  The event represents a first for what is now designated as AFW in the list of Province codes worldwide, a group of countries that formerly came directly under the mission outreach of a number of Provinces: UK, USA, Germany and Turin (or ICP).

The Africa West Vice Province was created in December of last year, meaning that each of the novices who profess today began their novitiate as members of their respective provinces at the time.  One does not need a long memory to realise that Sunday Williams and Albert Gibson from Liberia (formerly under the UK) had to make a difficult journey from an area caught up in civil war, just to arrive at their place of novitiate.

Perhaps not by accident, in the mind of a Provident God, is another reality - 5th August marks the silver jubilee of Salesian entry into Liberia.
