Strenna DVD  - what's the story?

ROME: 4th January 2006 -- austraLasia has already received queries concerning this year's strenna.  Here is an attempt to answer those queries.  Please make this available in communities and pass it around, to save the need for more answers at this end, if you could.
The Rector Major's video presentation of the Strenna, available in seven languages (German and Polish in addition to English, Italian, Spanish, French and Portuguese) is available on a DVD which is being mass-produced and distributed from Missioni Don Bosco in Turin.  The mass-production has been completed but not the packaging and distribution.  Word is that it will reach Rome by 15th January and will be distributed to communities throughout the world by 31st January.  In addition to the presentation of the actual commentary on the strenna, the DVD contains a number of spoken testimonies to the contents by members of families from various parts of the world.  There are too many of these for a single sitting; the idea is that people would make a choice of these to suit their own circumstances.
The first part of the DVD has the RM in the foreground speaking aginst several live presentations from different parts of the world, and the old black and white movie of Don Bosco which many remember with great nostalgia.  The 'witness' section lasts 34 minutes and there are some 40 couples to choose from.  Three of these are from our region - one from the Philippines and two from Korea.  These segments are grouped around some basic themes, and effectively become video clips usable for discussions on things like family in crisis, working families, traditional values endangered, family contribution to society and church, family and faith, prayer, vocation, education, children, the Preventive System, children as God's gift, Mamma Margaret, media and family, divorce, death.
In the meantime, the commentary itself is available through www.sdb.org and Bosconet has a Power Point version of the strenna message which is useful for simple presentations.
