MELBOURNE: November 29, 2014 –The Cambodian Delegation & Thai Province together with the Australia-Oceania Province rejoices on the occasion of the ordination to the diaconate of Bro. Arun Charles Michael, SDB last Saturday, November 29, at St. John the Baptist Church at Clifton Hill, Victoria, Melbourne.
His Most Reverend, Timothy Costelloe, SDB, DD, Archbishop of Perth, ordained Bro Charles. Present in the ordination were Fr. Gregory Chambers, Provincial Superior of Australian Province, Fr. Roel Soto, Head of the Delegation of Cambodia, Sr. Edna-Mary MacDonald, the Provincial of the Salesian Sisters, many Salesians, the clergy from the Archdiocese, religious studying at Catholic Theological College (CTC), representatives from the Salesian family and from the parish community. His beloved parents, Mr. Thomas & Mrs. Fatima, who had travelled from India, and a few of his relatives who live in Sydney and Melbourne, came to participate in this memorable event.
The Archbishop in his homily reminded everyone that Pope Francis had declared the new liturgical year as the Year of Consecrated Life.  He said that ordaining the Salesian religious -Bro Charles, as deacon, was a meaningful way to start the Year of Consecrated Life on the first day of advent.
He also invited the community to once again put Christ at the centre of their lives and to put their lives in the hands of Christ. The Archbishop concluded his homily inviting Bro Charles to make Christ the centre of his life and to represent Christ in his service as a deacon.
Bro. Charles toward the end of the liturgy thanked everyone present, most especially the Blessed Virgin Mary who has been guiding him in his Salesian life. For this he invited everyone to pray a Hail Mary together. The celebration ended with a simple family meal at the Aikenhead Wing of the Parish Primary School.
Rev. Bro. Charles has given his best in his studies at the Catholic Theological College in Melbourne, receiving the Master’s Prize, a very special achievement for his outstanding overall performance as a student and leader in CTC. As a minister of God he takes the words of St. Paul as his inspiration: “I have become all things to all people that I might by all means save some.” (1 Cor. (:22b)   He will be assigned in Engadine Parish, Sydney, to perform his ministry as a deacon.
