PNG: Salesian Sisters move step further to Girls Dorm for DBTI

PORT MORESBY: 17 May 2010 -- Following news of the new Vicuna Hostel opened at Henderson, Solomon Islands, on 13 May, Feast day of St Mary Mazarello, we now have news of another step in a similar direction, this time in its initial phase, at Boroko (Port Moresby), Papua New Guinea.
May 13, 2010 may be considered a memorable day for DBTI Boroko. At long last the Ladies’ Hostel for the female students who attend DBTI is changing from the status of a dream to one of reality. In the presence of the Higher Education Minister, other officials representing the Government, Ambassadors, students and friends, the first sod was turned for the new dormitory, thus closing a chapter of uncertainties.
Isabel Oaeke, a student, offered the following comment during the ceremony:
.“...to me it seems that DBTI will be in the process of fulfilling a dream after ten long years. I refer to this as a dream come true because of the accommodation problems faced by the female students who come from other PNG provinces to receive technological education. Some common examples of the problems  faced  are: residing with overcrowded family homes, urban P.M.V. bus problems, family problems, high risk of safety, failure to finish and graduate, and many more. ...I am sure the female students of DBTI will look forward to the completion of the dormitory and let us hope and pray that nothing will come up to hinder the smooth running of the project and that by the end of the year we may be accommodated, rather than running looking for places to stay...”
The dormitory has been placed under the protection of St. Mary Domenica Mazzarello and the Blessed Virgin of Fatima.
