MHC Festivity for SDBs and FMAs - Laguna and Makati

MAKATI and LAGUNA: 26th May 2008 -- Amongst many celebrations for the Feast of Mary Help of Christians around the Region, news has arrived of two in particular - a procession and a Mass presided over by Bishop Leo Drona sdb at MHC Parish, Mayapa, Laguna, and the final profession of three Filipina FMA Sisters at St John Bosco Church Makati.
    The Laguna celebration involved an early morning procession by parishioners then the 7. a.m. Mass at which Bishop Drona blessed the new altar and sanctuary of the church. The evening prior, parishioners had gathered in the Gymnasium for  Grand Show in honour of Mary Help of Christians. The various associations and organisations within the parish presented items.
    The Parish of Mary Help of Christians in Mayapa, Laguna, was established on 1 December  1973. It is a parish that serves 23 other chapels. Since its establishment it has seen 7 Salesians as parish priest and many others as assistant priest.  It includes two bishops amongst its ranks -  Bishop Leo Drona of San Pablo and Bishop  Precioso Cantillas of Maasin. The first parish priest was Fr John Benna who is now chaplain to the thousands of Filipinos living in and around Turin, Italy. The current parish priest and also rector of the community is Fr Elmer Sicat.
    On the same day 
three Daughters of Mary Help of Christians pronounced their final vows in the hands of Sr. Alicia Fulgencio, the Provincial of the FMA Philippines-Papua New Guinea Province.  The Solemn Mass was presided over by His Excellency Most Reverend Archbishop Edward Joseph Adams, DD, the Apostolic Nuncio, and concelebrated by 13 priests at St. John Bosco Parish Church in Makati City.  Nearly a hundred FMAs and approximately 500 relatives, friends, mission partners, and benefactors joined the festivity. 
    The three FMAs were Sr. Candy Carmen Balverde from Manila, Sr. Rica Cebuano from Cebu, and Sr. Claudia Mae Deypalan from Negros Occidental.
