Together with a vision of transformation

SUTGATTI (Konkan, India): 12th November 2005 -- There are a number of interesting features in the item below, best identified by the notion of a common vision - Salesians, Salesian Sisters, and the example of a formation exercise for a stage that tends not to have too many of these: tirocinium or practical training.  We'll let one of them, practical trainee Joy Fernandes, tell the story, a fact which also holds some interest - obviously the young Salesians from Mumbai-Konkan are being encouraged to write and communicate.  This is not the first item of news from this source:
"Together with a vision towards transformation", was held at Don Bosco, Sutgatti, on 4th November 2005 for College Brothers, practical trainees of the Konkan Vice province".  There were eleven practical trainees, three priests and two lay people taking part.  "The course highlighted the various works carried out by the community from Don Bosco Sutgatti in collaboration with the Salesian Sisters".  He then describes how the group visited a village where the Salesians have organised self-help groups, especially amongst the women, and 'open schools'.  In a nearby village one evening they held a Participative Rural/Rapid Appraisal or PRA session with villagers.  The entire village turned up.  This was followed by a cultural programme, with the Konkan superior, Fr Loddy Pires, as chief guest.

"The whole PRA process was a successful venture", Bro. Joy continues. "A lot of input and sharing of experiences was also carried out by Fr. George Quadros and his team.  The course helped the young brothers to formulate a positive vision for the future. To sum it all up:  'Vision without action is only a dream; Action without vision just passes the time; Vision with action can change the world'."
