Don Bosco - a New Biography: Teresio Bosco's masterpiece in new English translation

MUMBAI: 11th October 2005 -- It seems that as fast as they translate and publish Teresio Bosco's Don Bosco - Una Nuova Biografia, it sells out.  The well-known and generally well-appreciated Borruso translation, published by St Paul's Publications in Nairobi has been out of print for some time.  Now comes news of an entirely new edition, promising to be an even more accurate, more readable translation, from Mumbai.  It is the work of a veteran Italian missionary, in his 90th year, Fr Giuseppe Moja and meticulous editing by the Mumbai Provincial, Fr. Ivo Coelho.
Don Bosco - A New Biography, as the title is faithfully rendered, sold 3,000 copies of its pre-publication offer for the Indian subcontinent.  It will go immediately into a second printing for the English-speaking worldwide audience.  The book was launched by the Provincial and editor, Fr Coelho, at the Provincial House on October 6th as part of a national seminar for Salesian parish priests.
The Italian original is widely acclaimed as both readable for the general public and attentive to the historico-critical work done on Don Bosco, at least up until the time of its first publication in 1979. The Borruso translation was careful and a real sea-change from oft-times faulty Salesian document translations of yesteryear.  But the Moja-Coelho translation takes a further step forward, being even more careful, and combining the undeniable wisdom of a nonogenarian Salesian, journalist, researcher, missionary, countryman of Don Bosco with the scholarly editorial expertise of a native English speaker.  In line with the effort to ensure that readers know Don Bosco in his historical context, this new translation retains dates, names and historical information that the earlier translation referred to had dropped.
ElleDiCi, the Salesian Publishers from Turin, have given Mumbai the rights for Europe, Asia and the US.  Information regarding availability of the work are best addressed to Tej Prasarini, the details are as follows - Published by Tej-Prasarini Don Bosco Communications, Matunga, Mumbai.  Pgs. 467
Price: Hard cover – Rs. 200/- & Paper back – Rs. 150/-.  200 Indian Rupees translates to something like USD 5, so, along with postage costs, it sounds like a good bargain!
