New Vice Province to offer first two missionaries

ODXEL-GOA: 12th June 2005 --  The Superior of the Vice Province of India-Panjim (INP), a Salesian circumscription which came into being only in 2004 after being hived off from Mumbai Province, has announced that in the new year the first two young missionaries will receive their mandate.
On the occasion of the Rector Major's visit to India for the South Asian region Team Visit, the Indian provinces made an offer of 25 missionaries as a centenary gift, and a number of provinces have already announced their candidates.  Now it is the turn of INP.  Both students for the priesthood, Cl. Philip Fernandes and Cl. Jacinto Dias have generously volunteered their lives as missionaries.  Bro Philip is finishing his Practical Training, while Bro Jacinto is preparing for Diaconate.  Both missionary candidates will be given their missionary mandate in the Indian context at the conclusion of the Centenary Year in February 2006.  At this stage it is likely that Bro. Philip will go to Sudan.  Bro Jacinto's missionary appointment is yet to be announced.
Fr Loddy Pires, Vice Province Superior, also announced 3 newly professed for the Vice Province, 6 novices and 7 pre-novices.  The area of the INP circumscription covers not only the well-known but geographically small Goa region, but the very large Karnataka region as well. With approximately 70 members, it is small by Indian Salesian Province standards, but rich in the extent and intensity of its works.

VOCABULARY
circumscription: in the canonical sense, as used here, any province or vice province or other area.  The more special Salesian meaning would be an area directly under the responsibility of the Rector Major or his appointee.  This meaning does not apply here.
Cl.: Abbreviation for 'cleric'.  The term would be canonically accurate only for the second-named, but most Indian provinces have adopted the reference and its abbreviation as a convention for ease of separate reference to priestly and lay candidates.
hive off: split off, break off from a group.
