Don Bosco, Matunga: Most Socially Responsible School

Mumbai, October 18, 2004 : According to a study commissioned by the HRD ministry of the Indian Government and conducted by Media Management Group for Literacy and Development among 80 schools across four major cities – Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata – and Guwahati, Don Bosco High School Matunga in Mumbai was selected as the most socially responsible School in Mumbai.

The Survey applied 14 parameters of socially-responsible behaviour to draw up a top ten list in each of the cities as well as in the Nation. On the national level Don Bosco Matunga appeared fifth. The school spent Rs. 14 lakh to Rs. 10 lakh in 2001-02 (the time of survey) on social service [a lakh is 100,000 in the Indian numbering system]. In Mumbai Don Bosco Matunga was recognised as the school spending maximum amount on the scholarships.
