Blessing of the Salesian residence, Salelologa, Savai’i, Samoa.

SAMOA: 21st November 2009 -- On November 14th 2009, after many delays, the Salesian Residence in Salelologa was finally blessed.
Father Paselio Tevaga presided at the Mass that was celebrated in the partly completed Parish Hall.
In a brief homily Father Paselio gave thanks to God, and acknowledged the builders and all involved in the project, for the work accomplished and a dream realised at last! After Mass the Salelologa Catholic Community and representatives of the Iva and Salelavalu Catholic Communities processed to the new Residence, where Father Nicholas Castelyns said the Blessing prayers. Kamelita Ioane Tauiliili, the wife of the local catechist, cut the ribbon and Father was handed the keys of the house by the builder. Both Fathers Paselio and Nicholas, followed by the crowd, then entered the house and doused it with copious amounts of holy water.
The ceremony moved back to the Hall for “light” refreshments.  Father Paselio cut the “occasional” cake and Tamalii Ioane, the wife of the deacon of Iva, cut the cake that was served with generous serves of ice-cream!
The Residence will be known as “The St Francis of Sales Residence” (Maota o Sagato Falanisisi o Sale), and is part of the ambitious local Catholic community project expected to be completed and blessed on December 18th 2009.  It consists of a Cathedral style and size Church, a Parish Hall-cum-Catechist’s residence, and the priests’ residence
