Ratisbonne-Jerusalem: Priestly Ordination of Fr Jesuino de Oliveria Alves

JERUSALEM: 11th December '04 -- At the Church of Gethsemani, December 4th, at 3:30 p.m Rev. Jesuino de Oliveira Alves was ordained priest by Mons. Peter Sambi. Mons Peter Sambi is the Apostolic Nuncio in Israel, Apostolic Delegate for Jerusalem and Palestine.
Fr Jesuino is from East Timor. He began his theological studies at Cremisan, in the Holy Land. This year, the Theologate moved to its new site in the city of Jerusalem, the former Ratisbonne Centre for Christian-Jewish studies until the Vatican moved this institute to Rome and invited the Salesians to use the Jerusalem property for theological formation.
The mass was celebrated with the Salesian community at Ratisbonne. This was a particular joy for the community, because after studying here, students usually return to their own province for ordination. There were Salesian Sisters, Franciscans, other religious and friends present as well.
Fr Jesuino will receive a new obedience once he has arrived in East Timor. In the meantime he faces the difficulty of many who left East Timor during the interim direction of the United Nations, that of obtaining a visa with minimum documentation. He is currently in Rome.
