WYD Echoes still being Heard and Shared

PHNOM PENH: 6 September 2008 -- SYM Productions, Don Bosco Phnom Penh, has summed up the Cambodian Youth Pilgrimage to WYD08 in a 30 minute DVD, replete with photos and other materials. Together with the young people's live participation, and showing the DVD, WYD echoes were heard and shared, from 21-24 August, with 160 leaders from the Apostolic Prefecture of Kompng Cham, with 295 youth leaders from the Vicariate of Phnom Penh from 26-29 August and with a further 272 youth leaders from the Apostolic Prefecture of Battambang from 2-5 September.  The topic for all three gatherings was "We become living witnesses of love and compassion by the power of the Holy Spirit".
The SYM Group has held its own WYD08 'Echoes' with the WYD08 theme song at the DB Phnom Penh Graduation Ceremony (the school year finishes today, 6th September).  And the occasion has been graced, for the first time, by the presence of the Provincial, Fr John Bosco Dheparat, who is making the canonical visitation to the community.  A little history has been made, then, in the brief history (since 1991) of Salesian presence in Cambodia.
The Australian connections, Salesian and beyond, that have arisen as a result of WYD are also showing fruits. During this month students from Templestowe (not Salesian students) in Melbourne will be in Cambodia on cultural exchange.  These students will help with group leadership in two seminars, one entitled 'Where Don Bosco and Templestowe meet: one language, one service' (8-10 September) for teaching staff and a second from 18-20 September directed to social outreach personnel.
Finally, Ms Lauren Bicknell, the person who is heading up the Australia-Pacific Province's Cagliero Project, will be visiting Don Bosco places in Cambodia between 25-29 September.  During all these visits, it is certain that more WYD echoes will be heard from the Melbourne 'Days in the Diocese', the Rector Major's visit, the SYM International Forum at Chadstone and the similar gathering at Engadine near Sydney, as well as from the main Sydney WYD event.

[Why not visit SDL 'austraLasia' collection and run a simple search on WYD to be able, now, to get a sense of this event over the time it has been reported in these pages]
