From Delegation to Province - historical study of Philippines published in Manila

MANILA: 10th February 2007 --Fr Nestor Impelido's detailed study of the growth of the Salesians in the Philippines has been released under the title of Salesians in the Philippines: Establishment and development from Delegation to Province (1951-1963). It is the result of work that Fr Impelido has done as a member of the Istituto Storico Salesiano-Roma, Studi - 24 - LAS ROMA 2006, 384 p. [20 photos included], but this new version is a Philippines-Manila production.
The work is dedicated to the memory of Fr Carlo Braga and the first Salesians who introduced the Philippines to the Salesians. In his presentation of this new edition, Fr Wong, current provincial of the Philippines North province says: '...moreover it is a crucial work in order to conserve the patrimony of those who founded the Salesian presence in the Philippines. The fact is that we are losing, little by little, our veteran founders, and surely we do not wish to lose the wealth of the Salesianity they lived for us.  What the study wishes to remember is not structures but Salesians defined by a charism who laboured in the Philippines in witness of their love and fidelity to St. John Bosco'.
Printed in Manila-Makati: DB Printing Press, January 2007. Queries may be directed to dbpress@info.com.ph

Fr Impelido is a member of the ACSSA or Associazione Cultori di Storia Salesiana, and works for the Istituto Storico Salesiano in Rome, though currently based in the Philippines. He has a doctorate in Church History from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. His thesis was a study of the religious conditions in the Philippines in the first half of the 18th century (1700-1750) based on the pastoral writings of the Religious Orders. He is professor of Modern Church History and Philippine Church History at the DBCS in Manila.
