Salesian Cooperators in the Region thinking to Macau 2008

ROME: 17th December 2008 -- The World Councillor for the ASC East Asia Region, which also includes Cooperators from Oceania, Philip Yu of Hong Kong, has recently been in Rome for the World Council Meeting.  Given the adoption of the new Project of Apostolic Life 'ad experimentum', some minor reorganisation in some regions around the world, and the writing up of a new commentary for the PAL, the forthcoming Congress in Macao in May (22-25) 2008, along with similar Regional Congresses in other parts of the world, takes on considerable importance.
Amongst the groups to 'sign up' for this important Congress has been the newest of them in the region - ITM, The East Timor-based Centre only began on April 30th 2006 with promises by the first six Salesian Cooperators.  However they have 30 aspirants and plans to begin two new centres, one in Bacau and another in Jakarta.  In both places aspirants are already in formation under the guidance of one or other SDB/FMA Delegate.
One SDB and FMA Delegate each and two of the Cooperators are planning to attend the Macau Conference.  It is the intention of the ITM Centre to plan for the formation of more members in the coming five year period and, since a number of the existing members are involved in formal education, to establish close links with Senior High Schools in order to help form youngsters who are drawn into situations of violence.
The Macau Congress has set communion and family (both family at home and Salesian Family) as central to its discussions.  There will also be the tasks of electing the new World Councillor from the region, drawing up a regional Directory, and electing two regional councillors, one in charge of formation, the other of administration.
Meanwhile, the PAL is now being made available in a printed edition in English - printed by Lulu.com in an attractive blue cover pocket-book edition, the link for ordering a copy can be obtained by requesting it from the appropriate World Councillor, or from austraLasia.
