SDB Ordinations - diaconate, priesthood, episcopate - in Australia

MELBOURNE: 10th June 2007 -- Amongst the many series of ordinations around the Region in June (and in the months to follow, through until December), those in Australia strike a particular note, certainly because it is the first time in the history of this province that they can claim the ecclesiastical trifecta, with deacons, priests and a bishop to boot!
On 1st June, Bro. Falaniko Felise, otherwise best known as Falani, was ordained deacon in the Cathedral in Apia, Samoa, by Archbishop Alipati.  He was ordained along with four other diocesan companions who had studied at Pacific Regional Seminary in Suva, Fiji.  Falani hails from the island of Savai'i where the Salesians are hoping to soon open a community and set up a secondary school. Deacon Falani has worked at the Youth Centre at St Mary's in Sydney immediately prior to his ordination.  He hopes to receive his priestly ordination later this year.
On 15th June Fr Tim Costelloe will be ordained bishop for the Melbourne archdiocese by Archbishop Dennis Hart at St. Patrick's Cathedral, Melbourne.  The ordination will take place before almost all of the Archbishops and Bishops of Australia (thirty plus).  The Provincial, Fr Frank Moloney, will be the assisting priest to the new bishop.  The Salesian Family will gather for a concelebrated Mass with the new bishop at Salesian College Chadstone on Sunday, June 17.  Bishop Costelloe is a past pupil, did his practical training there, was the Religious Education Coordinator for many years there, the Rector at one point, and most recently the Chairman of the College Board.
Deacon Kelekolio Leuluai, but known universally as Taisali, will be ordained priest by Archbishop Alipati at Don Bosco Parish Church in Sinamoga, Samoa on 23rd June. He will celebrate his First Mass in his home parish near Apia at Solosolo.  Taisali, apart from his studies in Suva at PRS (as with Falani above), has most recently been assigned for his diaconate period to Clifton Hill in Melbourne (where the new Bishop Costelloe had been the Rector and also Parish priest!).  He did his practical training in PNG, at Vunabosco on the island of New Britain.
--------
There are other ordinations in the region, either just occurring or in the near future - we will report them as we receive the information.
GLOSSARY
trifecta: a particular bet in horse racing where you predict the first three horses, in the correct order.
to boot: means 'additionally' and sometimes has the idea of a advantage as well.  Nothing to do with 'boot', it is related to Dutch Boete and German Busse. A favourite of both Shakespeare's and Conrad.
