Would you like to become a Mission?

Dear Friends and Salesian Family members,

Receive my heartfelt greetings on the first day of the ‘Extraordinary Missionary Month’, October 2019. It is really a wonderful opportunity for growing with the missionary Church that Pope Francis has dreamed of during the last 6 years.

A few days ago (12 September) we congratulated our  CDB (Volunteers with Don Bosco = Con Don Bosco) secular institute on their 25th anniversary (1994-2019). Although there are only 85 CDB members around the world (including our first 4 member group in Manila), we may learn one important belief from them: ‘Our entire life is a Mission!’ (CDB Constitutions, art. 5)

One week ago I was privileged to address the Salesian Family in Seoul on Salesian spirituality and Missions: Looking around the Salesian Family today, we recognize many shining missionary models and we can learn from and be inspired by them!

Br. Andrew Phuong, Salesian of Don Bosco (Vietnamese missionary in PNG and Mongolia)

Ms. Teresa Tsujimura, Salesian Cooperator (Japanese Past Pupil, missionary in Timor Leste) Ms. Olga Krizova, VDB (Slovakia, with a dream ‘to live as a walking tabernacle)

Servant of God Nino Baglieri, CDB (Italy, 38 years paralyzed, missionary of joy to the world) Caritas Sisters of Jesus (Korea: living in container convent, Kimbe - Papua New Guinea)

Mr Sanya, Alumnus of Don Bosco (Thai: founders of Laos Salesian mission, Vientiane)

and many missionary members of the Salesian Family, starting from Cardinal John Cagliero

These members of the Salesian Family are not ‘supermen or superwomen’, but simply show us the way to ‘Be a Mission’ in a simple, joyful and meaningful Salesian way! During this mission month of October 2019, I encourage you to do some small missionary act or commitment each day. We believe that we can keep our own faith alive only if we share the faith in Jesus with others!

Let’s be inspired by the Salesian animation booklet with a short reflection for each day! We also admire the consistent work of the Vietnam-Mongolia and Korea province missionary animation teams who re-produced this small booklet in their ‘local’ version, not simply translating it but adapting it to their own cultural situation and sensitivity. Be inspired by Salesian missionaries!
