Lahore, Pakistan, 19 July 2022 --  Two months ago the young and dynamic Past Pupils of Don Bosco, Pakistan (Lahore - DB Technical school) launched their campaign to help enroll 1000 new students for the school year 2022-2023. The idea started in the local meeting of Lahore Local Unit members, and all agreed to help Don Bosco Lahore in its Admissions Campaign 2022 as volunteers. The highly committed and creative 10 member group of Past Pupils is now in action.

The President of the local unit shares: " For all of us it was very painful that during and after COVID-19 period, we experienced that young people prefer going to any industry as unskilled labourers rather than getting technical education from a good education institution. So for 2 years we have been watching that the number of admissions in our Don Bosco school was going down. So at one point we were worried how to reverse this trend and bring the youth of Yohanabad (= the largest Christian 'colony' in Pakistan, where our DBTS is) to get solid technical education."

Regarding recruitment, the Past Pupils movement in Pakistan thinks that it's not justa matter of getting 'more students' but the training style and quality and youth interests oriented programme we have to offer. For this reason this school year 11 new short courses of 3-6 months of duration will be offered. Morning and evening sessions could be conducted due to their strength in particular departments. And the president continues: "And we have set the target of 1000 students enrolment this coming year 2022-2023.

At present the Don Bosco Technical School in Lahore has a good number of teachers. For example in all the trades (sections) 2 teachers are appointed (one teacher for the Theory Classes and other for Practical Training). And the number of teachers could be extended if more students enroll this year.

If the campaign succeeds, it will be a huge difference: Batch 2021-22 has more than 120 students enrolled in the One Year Vocational Training Programme and  in August 2022 we are going to graduate about 100 students. But in the DAE 3 year (Diploma of associate engineering) course 7 students have taken  the Exam of the Punjab Board of Technical Education. In this batch was overall more than 200 students, including the short course like hear dressing.

A highly committed group of Don Bosco Past Pupils are now using all kinds of media for the advertisement of Don Bosco Technical School admissions: leaflets (Print Media), social media (YouTube, Facebook, Instagram), Pakistan Catholic and Christian TV channels (live streaming), banners in the Youhanabad streets and of course approaching to the local people, mostly Christians.

Don Bosco Technical School in Lahore was founded by the first SDB missionaries in Pakistan in 1999, until now some 4000 young people graduated this school (https://donboscolahore.edu.pk) .

We pray, this campaign will bring really 1000 new students to Don Bosco. Our Lahore - Pakistan Don Bosco Past Pupils repeat on their social media 'We love Don Bosco!"
