Caritas Sisters of Jesus energized after their first Rome Spirituality Days

By Sr. Letizia Ono, CSJ

Rome, 6 October 2018 -- The Caritas Sisters of Jesus have held their first Spirituality Seminar in Rome. It took place from 17-30 September, 2018. Thirty-one Sisters from all Provinces and Vice-provinces of the Congregation took part in this renewal occasion held in the Monte Cucco (Rome) retreat house. The Congregation is extended across fifteen countries in five continents. For all Sisters it was a precious opportunity for spiritual renewal and for deepening the Caritas Sisters of Jesus' spirituality.

After the opening talk given by the Superior General, Sr. Teresia Furuki, quality contributions followed, offered by Jesuit Fr Skawara, on the Caritas spirituality and consecrated life according to Canon Law. Sr Hirota (Mercedes Congregation) led a workshop on communion as experienced among different cultures (inter-culturality). The final three days of the seminar were dedicated to a pilgrimage to places of the founder of the Congregation, Fr. Antonio Cavoli, and co-founder Mons. Vincent Cimatti (memorial day – October 6).

The idea for the Spirituality Seminar in Rome comes from the inspiration based on the annual Salesian Family Spirituality days held in Rome or Valdocco-Turin every year in January. Among the participants were all Sisters of the General Council, students in Rome as well delegates from all Provinces and Vice-provinces. The main goal of the Seminar was to foster the missionary communion spirituality of the Sisters through joint prayer and study.

On the final day, 1st October, the Sisters celebrated the Feastday of their Mother General, Sr Teresia Furuki, with the Eucharist, breakfast followed by an academy with dances, songs and words of homage. In this family environment at the end all participants received a personal certificate of participation.

One of the participants shares her feeling: "I'm very grateful for this occasion of spiritual recharging. Although I left behind my formation duties, I feel very much energized and motivated to continue my religious life with more joyful commitment."
