At the heart of large educative - pastoral community of Hua Hin
Hua Hin, Thailand, 6 September 2018 -- After seventy years from foundation of Salesian school in Hua Hin, thousands of Past Pupils spread the voice about Don Bosco education in the local society. Almost 4000 children and young people receive their education from the Kindergarten to the Senior high school, thanks for the dedication of almost 300 teachers and staff (lay mission partners), supported by the Past Pupils and Parents Association. At the heart of Hua Hin, one of the famous tourist places of Thailand we found a 3 hectar complex of St. Theresa of the Child Jesus parish (450 Catholics, Thai and English speaking international community), Salesian retreat house (famous for the Asian Bishops meetings - FABC and SDB Team visits) as well the Salesian Aspirantate (gr. 7-9, with 31 junior high school students). To make this setting more complete, also the General house of SIHM sisters is just across the school wall with another Aspirantate of Salesian Family.
How to animate so large Educative - Pastoral community? Weekly leadership meeting of the EPC core group, monthly encounter of the teachers are ordinary venues for coordination and synergy of all different sections and education program, including also English medium program. All EPC members are trying to practice the Salesian school philosophy, vision and to keep the Preventive System of Don Bosco alive!
How to whisper the Gospel in this large school community? Indeed the Catholic population among the 266 teachers is only 24 and among the 3877 students are present only 136 baptized Catholics. Special care is given through the catechism class and daily good morning talks as well through the student friendly school environment that does foster the development of personal gifts in music, sports and other areas.
Fr. Somrot (Rector and Principal), Fr. Tamayo (Vice-rector and Parish priest), Fr. Valter (confessor and advisor), Br. Joseph Kriengsak (Economer) and Fr. Vincent Minh (Aspirantate in charge) - five Salesians of four nationalities (Thai, Filipino, Vietnam and Italy) are witnessing at the campus a joyful, dedicated Salesian apostolic consecrated life with their assistance during lunch breaks and making Don Bosco's heart visible.
