An Accademia in honor of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus

By Cl. John Paolo Romero, SDB

Canlubang, the Philippines, 30 June 2018 -- The Post-novitiate community, with the participation of some Salesian youth, staged an Accademia entitled “Pusology” [In Filipino, Puso means ‘heart’]. This was in honor of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus.

The story revolved around the fictional story of heaven’s heart factory, where hearts are modeled after the very Heart of Jesus. Then one time, a heart which was thought to be ‘not up to the standard’ was delivered to earth. Val, the one who received it, was apparently living a bad life – a drug addict, chronic prisoner, bully, and a tambay [a bystander or bum]. The blame was put to Raffy, the angel who made the heart. This caused a commotion in the heart factory. Angel Raffy volunteered to do something to help Val. Boss JC (Jesus Christ), the CEO of the heart factory, gave a riddle to help Val in solving the problem. Raffy made a medicine which he thought might be the answer to the riddle, but later, he realized that he just had to accompany Val in facing his problems. The play ended in the heaven factory with Val saying that in the heart factory, all the hearts that are being made are in good condition for they are all patterned after the heart of Jesus.

The accademia was staged twice – on the 29th and on the 30th of June, 2018. It was attended and watched by the benefactors, young people, lay mission partners, students, religious and priests.

Fr. Monchit Garcia, SDB, the new rector of the Post-novitiate Community, and Fr. Eli Cruz, SDB, the vice-rector, gave the goodnight talks after each showing; challenging everyone to bring home the message that the hearts we carry in us, are hearts made after the Heart of Jesus – meek, humble, and compassionate.
