"Your future profession is to ask questions and inform the Cambodian community"
TV Channel director to DB SIkanoukville students

PHNOM PENH: 11 December 2007 --  Eleven students and their Salesian coordinator in communications studies from Sihanoukville visited the TVK national TV channel on 8th December, and were given an insight into how they might practise journalism in television. They were encouraged to ask questions by the Director of TVK, Mr Kem Gunnawadh.
The 11 students have put three months so far into intensive studies in communications and various aspects of journalism.  They range between 16-21 years of age.  All were amazed by the sophistication of a national TV Channel's operation. "This is a Cambodian channel run by Cambodians for Cambodians" the director explained to them. "If you are studying journalism, then you should get to know your country very well, since it is for your own people that you will be communicating".  He reminded them that the first thing to think about for television is electricity: "Without electricity you can do little with television" he said.  TVK's history goes back to 1953 and independence from France. It was suspended during the troubled times of the 70's and resumed in more peaceful times.
TVK's director indicated that he wanted to keep in touch with the programme of studies and initiatives in Sihanoukville's Don Bosco Technical School, with a view to involving them in future possibilities should these arise.  2008 sees elections in Cambodia and it might be such an opportunity, he thought.  The boys were particularly happy with their visit, since this is the TV station they watch every day.
