"Good Christians...": Two books which teachers and other educators might want to consider

MANCHESTER (Bolton): 25th February 2007 -- Fr David O'Malley, currently chaplain at Salesian Thornleigh College at Bolton, near Manchester, is making quite a name for himself as a writer, and is much appreciated throughout the UK Catholic education scene for a number of works in recent years.  Now he has come up with two items which would almost certainly be of interest to educators generally within the broader Christian context, anywhere in the English-speaking world. Christian Leadership and The Christian Teacher already indicate, by their titles, their wider appeal.
Christian Leadership aims to help leaders to strengthen their awareness of the spiritual dimension of leadership in school and youth groups by looking at the way gospel patterns can emerge through the service of authority in the Christian community. Of these patterns, David selects the vocational dimension of carrying responsibility as a main theme.
The Christian Teacher focuses on the vocation to teach, and attempts to sharpen awareness of the teacher in recognising opportunities for showing loving kindness. David helps the reader - the teacher - unearth the strands of God's spirit pointing to a loving presence at the heart of each person.
The educational systems and settings around the English-speaking world might differ in their details, but the level which David O'Malley is appealing to in these two books will be recognised as universal - and the Salesian reader will see that this writer has the knack of being able to reformulate tried and proven Salesian terminology without losing any of its essential content.
Of course, one could simply go through the internet to the Don Bosco Publications site at www.don-bosco-publications.co.uk  and follow up with the Paypal option there, but generous discounts for the Salesian Family, for bulk orders, and of course for austraLasia readers (!) will be available by emailing michael@salesians.org.uk .
The next austraLasia will contain yet another brief item showing that the communications spirit and the 'good book' is alive and well in the EAO region.  But we'll leave that until tomorrow.
