The Crazy Majority Aus fan site - and other cyber gigs in a Salesian spirit

LONDON: 3rd Feb 2007 -- Now, you really have to hand it to GBR, as they are quaintly termed in Salesian parlance - the UK for the rest of us.  Salesians and associated 'family' are becoming very active in cyber space and it is good to see. In keeping with proper journalistic procedures, we should start with the headlined item - Martin Sherlock (23 year old nephew of Fr Pat Sherlock, provincial secretary of GBR) has his own musical group which he calls The Crazy Majority and it is, well, it IS music, at least to my ears.  Was taken also with the fact that Martin has an associated AUS fan site, so that gives him purchase in austraLasia at least!  Anyway, check it out - on www.myspace.com/Crazy Majority or just run a Google search on same or even enter the MySpace space and search there. He even has a More from...and Even more from... page if you want more.
Then there is Don Bosco on MySpace!  He is there as a 73 year-old participant along with anyone and everyone else.  It's also an easy way through to the Yellow Umbrella kindly put up on YouTube a little earlier by another enterprising confrere from EAO region - so a good example of cybercooperation across the Salesian world! One notes that the lads from Bolton have been particularly active, though most are keeping their profiles close to their chest. But Niall lets us know a fair bit about himself so take a look. The site could be a bit prettier, but it is MySpace after all, so....   http://www.myspace.com/don_bosco
Not over with yet - Fr Bob Gardner has set up an SMS prayer text service, a daily message, with help from the Salesian Youth Ministry Team.  Each day he sends out a short inspirational quote (e.g. from Don Bosco, Mother Mazz, St F de S, Mother T etc) to all those who have registered - including young people in some of the Salesian schools.
Incidentally, I have an mp3 copy of the very latest 'letter from Rome' - a message from the Rector Major, given over the airwaves inside the Basilica of MHC on 31st January, where he speaks in 'all simplicity' in the same way as Don Bosco did many years ago, to the youngsters at the Oratory today....and everywhere else.  This is already on www.sdb.org in its printed, translated version signed, indeed by Don Bosco himself (Go Rector Major-discourses and messages), but it was delivered viva voce (in Italian, obviously) and would be of interest to some.  You should find the mp3 version in the same place.  It is very clearly enunciated, so long as you have some basic Italian.

   GLOSSARY
gig: origin unknown, but it means any booking for a jazz or other musician, or even the concert itself
