First Education Talk Show in Blitar - "Education Today"

By Fr. Vincent Prastowo, SDB

Blitar, Indonesia, 26 February 2018 -- Only few days ago (Tuesday, February 20) Fr Klement made a visit to our St. Joseph Technical School in Blitar. As usual, he addressed the whole Educative and Pastoral Community (EPC) in the Good Morning talk and held a short dialogue with our teachers. A short but powerful message, that in the Salesian school of Don Bosco the most important people are the students. And as a consequence all the teachers and staff (lay mission partners) including the principal must be able to listen and understand the young students.

To listen to and understand young people today, teachers and instructors need to know and understand the characteristics of today's young people. For that purpose, four days after the Extraordinary visititation, February 24th, the school held the first Talk Show with the theme: "Education Zaman Now: be creative, inspirational and innovative".

The first talk was given by Rev. Carolus Jande who described the generation theory: X generation, Baby Boomers, Gen Y, Gen Z and Generation Alpha along with their characteristics and their connections. While the second resource person, Dr. Agustinus Indradi M.Pd explained the importance of the methodology in delivering the subject more interesting, creative and innovative. What teachers should remember is that in delivering 55% lesson material is greatly influenced by the way of delivering the material, 7% content and 38% appearance.

About 40 participanting teachers came from various 15 Catholic schools in the city of Blitar. They were all very happy and satisfied with the Talk Show, because it was really very inspiring! They hope that the school and the Salesians will carry on more activities like the first Talk Show.

The SDB community of Blitar (Rector Fr. Djoko) and the SMKK St. Yusuf would like to continue after this first succesfull teachers formation event!
