The Story of Blessed Zepherin Namuncurá again on the stage

By Fr. Joel Camaya, SDB

Canlubang, the Philippines, 26 January 2018 -- "Bury Me Deep' was staged yesterday here in Don Bosco College Canlubang, FIN province. Inspired by the book of the same title by (Fr) Peter Lappin,SDB I wrote the play during my first year as practical trainee towards the end of 1995 and we staged it on January 30, 1996.

I wrote the libretto and Atty. Joel Gammad (then in the postnovitiate) wrote the music. Michael Carlos played Zepherin and Fr Gerry Martin (then a postnovice) played Bishop Cagliero. In 1998, it was staged by the High School Department of DBC. Bro. Nathan Petate (then in 4th year High School) played Zepherin and Patrick A. P. Castañeda played Cagliero.

Yesterday's version was directed by Postnovice Nathan. Aspirant Anthony and Postnovice Paolo Romero played Zepherin and Cagliero respectively. In yesterday's staging, the three Zepherins (1996, 2008 and 2018) were present, and the three Caglieros were also present. Atty. Joel Gammad, the composer, was also present.

We are proud to make alive again the attractive figure of Blessed Zepherin Namuncura, Mapuche of Argentina, one of the first fruits of Salesian Holiness in the mission lands of Latin America.

The book of Fr. Peter Lappin is availabe online:
