Tokyo, Japan -- On the 26th May, the memorial of St. Philip Neri, who was respected by Don Bosco, the SYM Japan hosted a small gathering for the First Mass of the newly ordained Salesian priest, Fr. Taniguchi Ryohei SDB at the Chapel of Provincial House, Tokyo. 4 SDBs, 2 FMAs and more than 20 youths from different Salesian groups (Parishes, DBVG, VIDES JAPAN, Past Pupils and so on) came together, and had a wonderful time with Fr. Taniguchi.

In the homily, first, Fr. Taniguchi shared his vocation story, especially his experiences of the days as a Salesian Aspirant in Yokkaichi and Chofu. He said that he went through many difficulties and challenges, but thanks to God and his good friends he was able to experience a lot of joy prepared for him.

Then he mentioned the Gospel of the day, "when she has given birth to a child, she no longer remembers the pain because of her joy that a child has been born into the world." (John 16:21) He said he associates this scene with St. Mary, who give birth to Jesus, and he felt deeply how much we are helped by Mary and how much we are loved by Jesus. And He encouraged the youths to value encounters with others, and to trust and walk with Jesus and Mary even if there are great challenges or pains in front of them.

In the end of mass, we sang together 'Ave Maria' composed of Msgr. Vincenzo Cimatti SDB. Fr. Provincial Yamanouchi Mario SDB gave thanks to Fr. Taniguchi and said to youths, "I am very happy today because here are so many youths in this chapel. Anytime you are most welcome to our house and chapel. Like Fr. Taniguchi, listen to the voice of God from the daily life experiences step by step, and discover your vocation."

After the mass, each participant was blessed specially by Fr. Taniguchi one by one at the exit of the chapel, and they had a joyful small tea party in the meeting room, introducing their names and belongings to each other around the newest Salesian priest in Japan.

May Fr. Taniguchi go forward with the young, and for the young, like Jesus the Good Shepherd, and of course, like Don Bosco!
